The Encore Prize: Generation to Generation Challenge
March 10, 2017

Encore.org is dedicated to building a better future for future generations with encore talent -- experienced adults who want to leave the world better than they find it -- and in the bargain, changing perceptions about social impact in the second half of life.

Millions of people want “encore” roles -- paid or pro bono work that combines skills, smarts, experience and social purpose. Their experience can be a windfall in addressing the multiple challenges holding back youth. It’s a challenge ripe for innovation.

That’s the opportunity The Encore Prize: Generation to Generation Challenge seeks to address. With cash prizes, coaching and a year of ongoing support, we aim to launch the next generation of programs and products that bring the talent of 50+ adults to help kids at risk.

Why Apply?
Five finalists will receive four months of expert “encore training,” one-on-one coaching, an opportunity to share their ideas with encore leaders and funders and a year of ongoing support from The Encore Prize team and the Generation to Generation campaign. Two winners will share $100,000 ($50,000 each).

What Encore.org is Looking For
Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Innovation. New ideas or critical improvements to existing models.
  • Encore Fit. Use of encore talent in well-designed roles.
  • Capacity. Proven track record launching, developing and growing new programs or products.
  • Ability to grow. Potential of the idea to produce significant social change.
  • Financial Model. Clear plan for financial sustainability.
  • Diversity. Ability to engage diverse communities, particularly communities at risk.

Applications Open March 27, Close May 7.
