Yves Joanette, chair of the World Dementia Council and member of the Milken Institute's Center for the Future of Aging advisory board, addressed the Alzheimer's Disease International regional conference for Africa. The theme of the conference was The Road to 2025: Fostering Age-Friendly and Dementia-Friendly Communities. Lessons from our Global Neighbours. The event was held in Nigeria and featured presentations on the unique African experience of dementia, with an important focus on local solutions, including the adoption of a National Dementia Strategy in Nigeria. In his video-linked presentation, Joanette examined the global challenge of dementia and the role that multinational institutions can play in furthering research and promoting care for those living with the disease.
